Original hardcover 1st American edition of the P.L. Travers book "Mary Poppins". 

The author, Australian Pamela Lyndon (P.L.) Travers  (1906-1996) wrote the book when she was recuperating from a serious illness. She wrote 8 Mary Poppins books altogether and several other children's books as well as adult books.

Originally the Mary Poppins series was three books - Mary Poppins (1934), Mary Poppins Comes Back (1935) and Mary Poppins Opens the Door (1943). The original illustrator is Mary Shephard, who is the daughter of Winnie the Pooh illustrator H. Shepard. Shepard drew herself and Travers into the "Balloons and Balloons" chapter of Mary Poppins Comes Back. 

This book is acceptable condition, hence the reason the cost is not at the going rate of $200 - $700 for this 1st edition book. But it is still original and is really fun to have, and a great way for a collector looking to start a collection, because it is priced well.
