Restoration Linen Wash by Engleside Products is CURIO's favorite cleaning product for textiles. This is the exact powder that we use to restore the antique and vintage linen products that we sell. We tested several brands, and found this one to be our favorite.
Restoration removes most stains and yellowing, is safe and gentle on most fabrics and colours, and is easy to use. It does not contain Acids, Chlorine or Phosphates and is environmentally safe. And if you follow the directions on the back of the 2 pound container, you will have wonderful results with your linens, especially the ones that are old and yellowed or musty.
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Pre-Soak: Mix three scoops (scoop included in container) per each gallon of warm water making sure product is completely dissolved. Soak for 15-20 minutes, remove fabrics and gently squeeze out excess water. [We noticed that on this first step is where you will see the water turn brown or yellow, depending on the degree of dirtiness of the fabrics. It is important to remove after 20 minutes or so and continue to step 2. Also, we have altered the amount depending on the size of the bowl or sink used. The powder may take a few minutes to dissolve before you put your fabric in to wash.]
Step 2: Mix three scoops per each gallon of warm water making sure product is completely dissolved. Soak fabrics in fresh solution for 6-8 hours. Remove, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Most freshness and brightness will be restored.
Repeat stet 2 if necessary. [We have had to repeat step 2 sometimes 2-3 times, depending on condition of the linens we are trying to restore. We have left it to soak overnight, and have had good results with this too.]
Restoration can also be used as an additive to your daily laundry for added stain removal, freshness and brightness. Use 3 scoops per medium load. Not recommended for silk fabrics or wool carpets. Do not mix with chlorine bleach or other cleaning products. When fading has occurred original colors can not be restored.
