This dish is from the series created by the famous French illustrator Raymond Peynet. In the 1950's he became well known for his LOVERS series, and in the same decade, he teamed up with the venerable German porcelain factory Rosenthal to create a line of art pottery that is highly collectible today.

These cute pin dishes do not have the Rosenthal markings on the back, so you still get the look without the high price! They are charming and sweet, and a great way to add some French Flair to your home.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

RAYMOND PEYNET (1908-1999)

At the young age of 15, Peynet is admitted to the art school in Paris. His first job at Tolmer, a commercial agency in Paris, is where he learns his flair for drawing, graphics, labels, commercials, and illustrations. In 1930 he married Denise D'Amour. 

Peynet starts publishing his drawings in the presses of Paris, such as le Rire, Rire à deaux, Paris Magazine and The Boulevardier (a newspaper reserved to British living in Paris). It is in 1942 that his life takes a major turn.

Raymond was sent on assignment to Valence, in the French department of Drome, to deliver confidential mail. While waiting at the rendezvous point, sitting on a park bench in front of the bandstand of Valence, Peynet imagined a little violinist  playing alone in front of the bandstand of Valance as a young girl adoringly watches him. A few years later, the violinist will change into a poet and the girl will become his love.

Le Amoureaux de Peynet or The Lovers of Peynet were born. He became the greatest sensation of the time in France. The Lovers of Peynet made the worldwide tour - on porcelain, scarves, dolls, books, everything symbolizing love.

Peynet, also being a poet, produced several books with poems and his drawings, which were a huge success in Europe and Japan. There are currently four museums honouring the lovers of Peynet: Antibes, Brassac les Mines (in the native town of Peynet's mother), Karuizawa (Nagano-Japan) and Sakutocho (Okayama-Japan.) During his career, Peynet's lovers became the icons of modern France and were held in huge affection.
