THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS WE HAVE.... Imagine this. About 65-70 years ago someone needlepointed this purse by hand, and had it made into a functioning handbag. What an ode to the road-trip, when families packed into an unconditioned station wagon, with no video games or movies and probably two smokers in the front seat, and drove 30+ hours across the nation to see our country.
Just looking at the details on this purse tells the story. On one side there is a map of the USA with a little star knitted to where each state's capitol resides.
On the other side, a beautifully gloved pair of hands grips a large steering wheel, with the AAA emblem in the middle.
All along the sides and bottom are American Filling Station emblems... Remember TEXACO, GULF & AMOCO? If you're under 40 you may not, but this is a piece of route 66 + Americana history. Not to mention the fashionable and mint condition Celluloid clasp and fame and linked chain.
What a fun summer bag to bring out, or to give as a gift to someone who loves to travel. There is definitely not another like it, it is one of a kind.
