This is a very good example of the French Croix de Guerre T.O.E. medal, with a bronze cross and center medallion portraying a female head surrounded by a band inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE.
On the reverse side of the medal is the words THÉȂTRES D' OPÉRATIONS EXTÉRIEURS inside a circle of garlands. The ribbon is a grosgrain ribbon with the traditional red with central light blue stripe.
In 1921, this award was created for members of the French Forces who were mentioned in dispatches. A similar award to the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 was made but for the post war period and service outside of France. The first period of award 1918-1939 included campaigns in Levant and service against Abd-El Krim (Morocco 1925-1926). The second period of war award (Post 1945) included campaigns in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Korea.
DIMENSIONS: Medal diameter is 1⅜" and the ribbon is 1¾" x 1⅜" with the total length including ribbon being 3½" long. See all photos in gallery to view condition.
