This is an an exquisitely detailed handkerchief, probably c.1900, with a hand-embroidered monogram 'MCW' with decorative scrolling surrounding it. 

You don't need to share the same initials to appreciate and enjoy the quality of these antique linens. These unique pieces would be perfect under a crystal stemmed glass, a candle, or atop a little silver plate.

Other ideas we like are:

Fold and use as cocktail napkins (mix and match!), protect your jewelry when traveling or in storage, wrap a special present in it, keep in purse for weddings and sad movies, use as centerpieces for occasional pillows, tie one around the handle of a silver water pitcher to prevent drips (as shown in gallery), place one in between a saucer and a candle or vase, give as wedding present or hostess presents.

And of course, they are the PERFECT item to use to make a special ring-bearer pillow. We should know, as we have done just that.

The bride's favorite country was France, and her father fought in WWII. We found an antique souvenir hankie from France, honoring WWII. We used that as one layer, and then purchased a monogramed hankie with her new initial for the top layer. We embroidered their wedding date and added a ribbon on the top, of which to tie the ring to. Because this is antique or vintage fabric, it is best to hand-wash it. Using a detergent that is specialized for vintage linens is important, as they are less harsh and have special ingredients that take out yellowing, odors and age spots (wow, I wonder if there is an anti-aging cream like this?) The two we like best are Le Blanc Linen and RESTORATION - which is CURIO's preferred product and available for purchase in our textile section of the store.  Be sure to follow the directions on the containers and the results will be amazing.
