What makes this hand towel so unique is the subtle pattern in the fine-quality linen. It has a sheen to the fabric which shows its now-modern geometric patterns and then it is adorned with a bright yellow band along the bottom. This is very old, but in great vintage condition.

Double up:  place larger hand towels under finger-tip towels; use them to line sandwich trays; use larger towels as cafe curtains;  make your own lingerie bag by folding in half and sewing the sides and making a drawstring closure; for a picnic or casual dining, use all different ones as large napkins: roll up the silverware in each or drape against the back of chairs; give them as birthday, teacher, or wedding gifts. 

When it comes to vintage hand towels, sometimes the more the better. That is the motto we took when we did these two bathrooms. For a client, we used curtain rods as towel bars, so we could have more room. And then we hung one above the other, and filled them, layered upon each other, with lots of different vintage hand and fingertip towels in varying lengths and monograms. Some we had monogrammed int he owners initials, and some are just random letters.

In another bathroom, we took a vintage towel rack, and put a slab of glass on the top bar, turning it into a shelf. Instead of leaving it as JUST a shelf, we went ahead and also layered several vintage towels on both bars also.

In casual bathrooms, we have used old ladders as towel racks and piled on the vintage hand towels. In one bathroom we kept to a theme of  vintage French and German white linens with red turkey work, and in the other powder bath, we used all colours that were soft and pastel. Bottom line: Everything goes, and whatever works!

Because this is antique or vintage fabric, it is best to hand-wash it. Using a detergent that is specialized for vintage linens is important, as they are less harsh and have special ingredients that take out yellowing, odors and age spots (wow, I wonder if there is an anti-aging cream like this?)
